Wayne Rooney, a Manchester United legend, has sparked growing concern over his health after being photographed looking noticeably worse for wear while attending his former club’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham at Old Trafford. The 38-year-old football icon, who has recently been in good spirits following his managerial success with Plymouth Argyle, was spotted in the stands appearing visibly unimpressed with United’s performance.

Dressed in a black coat, Rooney’s appearance immediately set social media abuzz, with fans expressing worry about his well-being. Sky Sports shared a photo of Rooney on X (formerly Twitter), and within moments, the floodgates opened with comments from concerned supporters.

“He looks really bad,” one fan commented, encapsulating the worry of many. Another supporter, in a blend of concern and humor, wrote, “Hang in there, Wayne,” adding to the growing speculation about his health.

Others were not shy about pointing out Rooney’s age, with one post reading, “Rooney looks older than his age. He needs to take care of himself.” Another social media user questioned, “Is he suffocating, he’s all red? Asking out of concern.”

Rooney, who retired from professional football just three years ago, has previously discussed his struggles with weight, particularly during and after his playing days. In a 2022 appearance on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, he joked about having only one suit that still fit him, after Jamie Carragher playfully teased him for repeatedly wearing the same outfit.

“Do you know what? There’s a reason behind that,” Rooney explained at the time. “Over the last year, I’ve put a little bit of weight on, so it’s actually the only suit that’ll fit me at the minute — I’ve got to get the most out of it.”

Rooney’s past battles with weight gain are well-documented. In his 2012 book, My Decade In The Premier League, he candidly wrote: “I’m like most blokes, I put on a few pounds after a holiday. Even if I don’t train for a week, I put on two or three [pounds].”

As concern for his health spreads, fans are hoping the footballing legend takes steps to ensure his well-being as he continues his journey in management.
