In an exhilarating match that saw Chelsea clinch a 4-2 victory over Brighton, the spotlight was undoubtedly on Cole Palmer, who delivered an outstanding four-goal performance. Despite his incredible feat, Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho couldn’t resist some light-hearted banter, joking that Palmer might still be “fuming” over missed opportunities to score even more.

Palmer, who became the first player in Premier League history to score four goals in the first half at Stamford Bridge, had a near-perfect game. Yet, he narrowly missed out on an even bigger haul, striking the post and having another goal ruled out for offside before finally opening the scoring floodgates.

“He could have scored five or six goals,” Sancho quipped. “I’m sure he’ll be fuming not to add to his tally, but in all seriousness, he’s such a quality player. When you have someone like Cole in your team, anything is possible.”

Sancho’s playful remark underscored his admiration for Palmer, whom he has known since their days together at Manchester City. “I’ve always watched him and thought he’d become a great player. He’s showing that now at Chelsea,” Sancho added. “We see what he’s capable of each day in training, and honestly, it’s no real surprise to me to see him score four goals.”

Palmer’s masterclass on the pitch didn’t just earn him praise from teammates but solidified his rising star status at Chelsea. His ability to dominate an entire half of football with such precision is now etched in Premier League history. However, Sancho also made his mark in the game, registering his third assist since arriving at Chelsea and contributing to the overall team performance.

Reflecting on his own contribution, Sancho said, “I thought I started off a bit slow, but I grew into the game. I won the penalty and assisted Cole, so I’m happy to contribute. Playing at Stamford Bridge for the first time as a Chelsea player was a great feeling.”

Sancho is eager to continue his fine form at Chelsea and hinted at a goal being next on his to-do list. “I’m settling in well here and just want to keep this momentum going. Maybe even score a goal— that would be nice!”
