Paris Saint-Germain are set to make a surprising lineup decision in their upcoming Champions League clash against Arsenal, with midfield star Vitinha expected to be left out of the squad for tactical reasons. This comes hot on the heels of news that winger Ousmane Dembele, despite being fit, will also miss the match due to a falling out with manager Luis Enrique.

According to France-based journalist Matt Spiro, the reason behind Vitinha’s exclusion is linked to PSG’s concerns about Arsenal’s growing threat from set-pieces. Although Vitinha has been one of PSG’s standout performers this season, his relatively short stature, at just under 5’8”, has reportedly led to fears that he may struggle against Arsenal’s taller players, especially during set-piece situations.

Spiro explained, “Vitinha has been excellent for PSG and was passed fit ahead of Tuesday’s game, but he’s reportedly being left out for bigger players to help the team deal with Arsenal’s set-piece threat.” In light of these concerns, Luis Enrique is expected to opt for a midfield trio of Fabian Ruiz, Warren Zaire-Emery, and Joao Neves, all of whom offer more physical presence on the pitch.

This decision may provide a significant boost to Arsenal’s hopes, as Vitinha’s playmaking abilities have been a key element in PSG’s midfield dominance this season. Arsenal, who have recently improved their performance in set-pieces, may now find themselves in a better position to exploit PSG’s tactical reshuffle.

The news of Vitinha’s omission comes right after it was revealed that Ousmane Dembele, another key player, will miss the match. Dembele did not travel with the squad after a reported disagreement with Luis Enrique over the weekend. As a result, he’s being disciplined, despite being fully fit to play.

Beyond Dembele and Vitinha’s absence, PSG will also be without a few long-term injury absentees, including Goncalo Ramos (ankle), Lucas Hernandez (ACL), and Presnel Kimpembe (Achilles), further limiting their options.

With two pivotal players out for non-injury reasons, PSG’s clash with Arsenal is shaping up to be a game full of intrigue and potential surprises.
