Piers Morgan Draws Maradona Comparison for Arsenal Star After Sensational Performance
Piers Morgan likened Kai Havertz to Diego Maradona after the German international scored Arsenal’s fifth goal in a victory over Burnley.
Mikel Arteta’s side travelled to Turf Moor hoping to keep up with Manchester City and Liverpool in the Premier League, and they delivered by scoring five goals for the second consecutive away game.
Arsenal followed up their 6-0 thrashing of West Ham with another convincing victory.
Martin Odegaard opened the scoring against Vincent Kompany’s side after just four minutes, followed by a brace from Bukayo Saka and a goal from Leandro Trossard to put Arsenal four goals ahead.
Havertz, a former Chelsea player, picked up the ball high on the left when Dara O’Shea switched off and cut into the box.
The 24-year-old then nudged the ball through Hannes Delcroix’s legs with speed and finished coolly into the corner.
There was no deficiency of commendation for his efforts, Morgan chiefly among them. He said on X: “OMG… @kaihavertz29 has just pulled a mini-Maradona.. sensational goal.” Morgan later added: “Great performance, Kai.. you’re making a lot of critics, including me, eat our words.”
Arteta was pleased to see his team once again demonstrate their ruthlessness in front of goal.
Arsenal has scored two or more goals in all of their Premier League matches in 2024.
The Spaniard stated in his post-match press conference: “We are showing a high efficiency in front of goal at the minute. You see the purpose when we’re playing that we always want to play forwards and be a threat.
“The players up front feel really connected at the moment. That’s a different story because it gives us much more tranquillity to finish the games off.”
Arteta emphasised that his team understands the importance of goal difference with things tight at the top of the Premier League. The north London side is still two points behind Liverpool.
He added: “We want more and we know how important it is to be up there in the goal difference. Every player that you bring [on], whether it is one minute or 30 minutes, the contribution they are willing to give to the team is really positive. Let’s keep doing it.”
