New Camera Angle Reveals Controversial Jackson Incident in Chelsea’s 1-1 Draw vs Nottingham
Chelsea’s clash with Nottingham Forest on Sunday ended in a dramatic 1-1 draw, but the post-match narrative has shifted following revelations about an incident involving Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson. Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has shed light on the matter, stating that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was unable to review the clash due to the unavailability of footage at the time.
During the match, tensions escalated in the dying minutes when Forest’s Neco Williams pushed Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella near the Chelsea bench. Referee Chris Kavanagh handed out three yellow cards to Williams, Cucurella, and Levi Colwill for their roles in the altercation. However, a different camera angle later revealed a confrontation between Jackson and Forest’s Brazilian defender Morato, which had gone unseen during the game.
Gallagher discussed the implications of this new footage while speaking with Sky Sports, noting, “The alternate viewpoint of the supposed incident hadn’t been accessible to the Video Assistant Referees at the time, which is why the FA may now have to address the situation.” He elaborated on the challenges referees face in these situations, explaining, “If you get in the middle of it, you have two problems: you’re at risk of being struck yourself, and if the player strikes you, he has a problem. It might be accidental, but it won’t exonerate it. Secondly, you can see who comes in as an aggressor and who comes in as a peacemaker.”
Gallagher emphasized that, while the match officials handled the situation as best as they could, the Football Association (FA) may need to take further action now that this new angle has surfaced. “This falls in line with once your colleagues have swept up, the FA can pick up. It’s a new angle; it’s up to the FA what to do,” he concluded, leaving Chelsea fans and football enthusiasts alike eagerly awaiting the FA’s decision on the matter.
