Manchester United make enquiry for Julen Lopetegui, Erik Ten Hag knows he’s getting sacked

Manchester United, one of the Premier League’s leading clubs, has inquired about the availability of former Spain manager Julen Lopetegui, who is also a target for AC Milan.

Despite online protests and petitions from their fans regarding Lopetegui’s potential hiring, Milan appears eager to secure his services. Reports suggest that a draft agreement between Milan and Lopetegui is already in place, and negotiations could progress rapidly.

Corriere della Sera has reported that Lopetegui is currently the frontrunner to become Milan’s next manager.

However, Milan is also making efforts to outmaneuver Juventus in their pursuit of Thiago Motta. Juventus is reportedly assessing their finances to figure out how to settle with former manager Max Allegri and Cristiano Ronaldo before reaching a pre-agreement with Motta. Milan sees this as an opportunity to capitalize on Juventus’s delay.

Lopetegui has put an offer from West Ham on hold as he is inclined towards joining Milan over the London club.

Despite West Ham doubling their financial offer in recent hours, Lopetegui’s preference seems to be with Milan. Additionally, Manchester United has also expressed interest in Lopetegui, as they might be seeking a new manager in the summer.

Erik Ten Hag knows he’s getting sacked

According to Wesley Sneijder, Erik ten Hag “already knows” that he will have to quit Manchester United at the end of this season.

Despite a successful debut season leading the Red Devils to the FA Cup final, the Carabao Cup, and Champions League qualification, the former Ajax manager has struggled to build on that success.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS company now in control of football operations, there will be a change in the dugout.

After a challenging season, Ten Hag is expected to be dismissed, and Ajax is keen to re-employ him due to their struggles since his departure in 2022.

Sneijder, who was often linked with a move to Old Trafford during his playing career, believes Ten Hag is well aware that his time at Manchester United is coming to an end.

“Of course, he already knows that he has to leave,” Sneijder said on the Dutch TV show Veronica Offside, as reported by Voetbal Primeur.

“But you’re not going to leave by yourself. If I were him, I would just sit comfortably [until he’s sacked].”
