Man City star desperate to re-sign for championship club after underwhelming Etihad spell

It is understood that Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips is eager to return to Leeds United this summer, as the midfielder is set to depart from the Premier League champions.

The English player made the switch from the Yorkshire club to the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2022, joining Manchester City in a £45m deal.

At 28 years old, Phillips likely anticipated playing a significant role in Pep Guardiola’s team over the duration of the six-year contract he signed. However, his time at City has been far from successful, with the midfielder experiencing disappointment instead.

The ex-Leeds player has had minimal playing time and was loaned to West Ham in January in an attempt to revive his chances of making it to the Euros with England this summer.

However, instead of participating in the tournament, Phillips will spend his summer looking for a new club. According to Football Insider, the 28-year-old is keen on returning to Leeds.

Phillips’ career is at a critical juncture, as his loan spell at West Ham has been disappointing, and the London club has no intention of retaining the midfielder.

Additionally, Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League is uncertain, and it seems probable that Daniel Farke’s team may need to go through the playoffs to regain a place in England’s top flight.

It’s unclear if Phillips would be willing to play in the Championship if Leeds United fail to secure promotion.

If he does, it would demonstrate his deep affection for his childhood club. Phillips, who is 28 years old, was part of the last Leeds team to achieve promotion to the Premier League, making a total of 234 appearances for the club as a midfielder.

It remains to be seen whether the Englishman can fulfill his dream of returning to Elland Road this summer, but several factors need to fall into place before he wears the White jersey again.
