Fabrizio Romano Drops Major Update on Manchester United and Thomas Tuchel Speculation
Fabrizio Romano, the renowned football insider, has revealed that Manchester United are not currently in talks with any candidates to replace Erik ten Hag, despite mounting pressure on the Dutch manager. Speculation had surfaced about potential replacements, including former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, but according to Romano, the club is still conducting internal discussions regarding Ten Hag’s future.
However, Romano has not entirely ruled out the possibility of Tuchel taking charge at Old Trafford. The German tactician, who was on United’s radar last summer, remains a free agent after parting ways with Bayern Munich at the end of last season. Tuchel recently hinted at a desire to return to England, sharing fond memories of his time in the Premier League, where he led Chelsea to Champions League glory.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano provided an update on the situation, stating, “Another manager who was appreciated, for example, was Roberto De Zerbi. But De Zerbi now has a different project, Olympique Marseille, so for sure, he’s not a candidate now for Man United. But just to tell you that Man United had some names in mind last summer when they considered the possibility of replacing the manager.”
Romano also emphasized that Tuchel was among those considered, but added, “Then they decided to continue with Erik ten Hag, but Tuchel was there, and so Tuchel could be a candidate, and so Tuchel is appreciated. But at the moment, Manchester United are still discussing internally, and still not making contact with any other coach so far, because they still keep respecting and waiting with Erik ten Hag.”
Manchester United’s dismal start to the season has sparked concerns, with the team sitting 14th in the Premier League after seven games, their worst start in over three decades. A goalless draw against Aston Villa extended their winless run to three games, and with just five goals scored so far, the pressure on Ten Hag has reached a boiling point. Despite this, the club remains patient and has yet to pursue a new managerial direction.
