Chelsea players felt Pochettino ‘disrespected’ Thiago Silva as he announces departure
During this season, members of the Chelsea dressing room believed that Mauricio Pochettino disrespected Thiago Silva with a particular decision.
As a result, the defender has announced that he will leave Chelsea at the end of the season when his contract expires.
Since joining the club from Paris Saint-Germain four years ago, Silva has made over 100 appearances for Chelsea, establishing himself as a key figure in defense regardless of who has been in charge.
The veteran Brazilian player has brought a wealth of experience and calmness to the Chelsea team, setting a strong example on the field despite being in the latter stages of his career.
For this reason, certain Chelsea players were surprised to discover that Reece James would be appointed as captain for the season, with Ben Chilwell named as vice-captain by Pochettino.
According to The Guardian’s report in November, some players were puzzled by this decision considering Silva’s seasoned leadership.
Some believed that Pochettino had ‘disrespected’ the defender, considering his experience as a captain at PSG and for the Brazil national team.
However, Silva quickly moved past the issue, with Conor Gallagher taking on the role of skipper in the absence of James and Chilwell due to injuries.
Silva expressed his emotions openly on social media when announcing his departure from Chelsea. Despite this, he made it clear in his four-minute video that he harbors aspirations of returning to Stamford Bridge in a different role.
He elaborated, saying, “I believe that in everything I’ve done here over the past four years, I’ve always given my best. But, unfortunately, everything has a beginning, a middle, and an end. However, that doesn’t mean this is the definitive end. I hope to keep the door open so that in the near future, I can return, albeit in a different role here. But… it’s an indescribable love. All I can say is thank you.
“It’s been a dream, definitely a dream. I never even imagined in my wildest dreams that I could achieve such great things and win one of the best professional titles, the Champions League, at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Goodbyes are for those who leave and never come back. I fully intend to come back one day…”
