Chelsea are reportedly in talks to sign a talented young player who has been likened to Manchester City and Portugal’s star, Bernardo Silva. These discussions have taken place in recent weeks with the player’s agent, although an official offer has not yet been made.
Chelsea recently bounced back with a 4-0 victory over bottom-placed Southampton in their last Premier League match at Stamford Bridge. Despite this win, it did little to relieve the concerns of fans following a difficult period. Since December 22, Chelsea has managed to win only three of their last eleven Premier League matches, suffering defeats to teams such as Fulham, Ipswich Town, Manchester City, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Aston Villa.
To add to their frustration, the Blues were eliminated from the FA Cup by Brighton last month, ending any hopes of winning domestic trophies this season.
However, despite these struggles, it seems that Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, is not under immediate threat. According to a detailed article by The Athletic, there are no signs that Maresca’s position within the club has been weakened by the poor run of form. Many players still hold him in high regard, appreciating his quality training sessions and tactical precision. While his overall strategy has stayed the same, Maresca is praised for his adaptability, making necessary changes to individual roles and positioning depending on the game.
Given this, Chelsea’s ownership group, led by Todd Boehly and BlueCo, seems to be planning for the summer transfer window with Maresca still in charge. As part of these plans, they are looking to strengthen the squad, and a young South American star is now a target.
Chelsea have reportedly held discussions with the agents of Ian Subiabre, an 18-year-old rising talent from River Plate. Despite having only made five senior appearances for the Argentine club, Subiabre has already attracted attention from several top clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool.
Subiabre has a release clause of €30 million (£25 million), and River Plate are prepared to sell him if this figure is met. According to talent scout Jacek Kulig, Subiabre is an exciting mix of winger and playmaker, known for his high football IQ and excellent spatial awareness. Kulig has even compared Subiabre to football stars like Bernardo Silva and Pablo Sarabia, highlighting his impressive abilities at such a young age.
