Chalobah’s exclusion from the first-team environment is particularly harsh, considering his service to the club. The defender, who spent loan spells at Lorient, Huddersfield, and Ipswich, had become a reliable squad member.
However, Chelsea’s sporting directors, not manager Enzo Maresca, made the decision to move him on, despite his desire to remain with the Blues. “Trev deserved better,” read a banner held by a fan during Chelsea’s pre-season tour in the United States, reflecting the growing discontent among supporters.
