Chalobah, Lukaku, Broja Cast Out from Chelsea First-Team as Todd Boehly Continues Ruthless Streak
Chelsea’s turbulent summer continues, with three prominent players reportedly banished from the first-team training facilities as Todd Boehly sharpens his axe in a bid to trim the squad.
The latest victim of the American owner’s ruthless approach is Trevoh Chalobah, a 25-year-old defender who has been with the club since childhood.
According to reports, Chalobah has been barred from using the club’s first-team training base at Cobham. Despite a long-term contract that ties him to Chelsea until 2028, Chalobah’s future at Stamford Bridge appears to be over.
He has been training with the Under-21 development squad and was even seen in action during a friendly against Boreham Wood.
“Chalobah has been kept away from the first-team building at the club’s Cobham training base,” the report from The Telegraph claims. The defender is not alone in his exile; he has been joined by out-of-favor striker Romelu Lukaku and young forward Armando Broja. All three players have been effectively frozen out by the club as Chelsea seeks to offload them in the coming weeks.
Chalobah’s exclusion from the first-team environment is particularly harsh, considering his service to the club. The defender, who spent loan spells at Lorient, Huddersfield, and Ipswich, had become a reliable squad member.
However, Chelsea’s sporting directors, not manager Enzo Maresca, made the decision to move him on, despite his desire to remain with the Blues. “Trev deserved better,” read a banner held by a fan during Chelsea’s pre-season tour in the United States, reflecting the growing discontent among supporters.
The club’s decision to ostracize these players appears to be part of a broader strategy to focus on those who will be part of the first-team plans.
The trio’s departures could help balance the books after Chelsea’s extravagant summer spending spree, with Boehly aiming to raise around £85 million from their sales.
As Chelsea finalize deals for Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion and Wolves’ Pedro Neto, the fate of Chalobah, Broja, and Lukaku serves as a stark reminder of the harsh realities of modern football.
