Arsenal Hero Emmanuel Petit Disagrees with Decision to Sign Raheem Sterling from Chelsea

Arsenal’s decision to bring in Raheem Sterling on a season-long loan from Chelsea has sparked mixed reactions, with former Gunners hero Emmanuel Petit voicing his concerns about the move.

Sterling, who had a tumultuous spell at Stamford Bridge, was informed by new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca that he was not part of the club’s future plans. This led to the 29-year-old winger joining Arsenal, where he expressed his excitement about the new chapter in his career.

“I’m really excited to begin my Gunners career,” Sterling said, reflecting on the move that saw him cross the London divide.

With a history of scoring 123 goals in 379 Premier League appearances and winning four league titles with Manchester City, Sterling’s pedigree is unquestionable. However, his recent form has raised eyebrows, particularly for Petit, who doubts the winger’s ability to make a significant impact at Arsenal.

Emmanuel Petit Warns Arsenal Against Signing ‘Inconsistent’ Raheem Sterling

“No, Arsenal shouldn’t sign Sterling,” Petit said bluntly during an interview with Safest Casino Sites as the summer transfer window was drawing to a close.

“Since Sterling left Liverpool, he hasn’t improved a whole lot at Manchester City and Chelsea. Sterling can have big moments but there is no consistency in his performances. He still needs to improve his final ball and needs to score more; this is the main problem.”

Petit, who was part of Arsenal’s league and cup double-winning team, expressed concerns about Sterling’s fit within Mikel Arteta’s philosophy.

“This is something that Mikel Arteta will not want in his team; he wants young and hungry players. Sterling won’t improve more than another young winger,” Petit added.

In contrast, Arteta defended the decision to sign Sterling, highlighting the player’s experience and potential to contribute to the team.

“We all know the qualities. It’s a big step for us. We have brought in a top talent who has a lot of experience who can contribute to the team in a big way,” Arteta said.

Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu, echoed Arteta’s sentiments, admitting that Sterling was not part of the initial transfer plan but became an opportunity the club could not pass up.

“It makes a lot of sense to have someone like him because I’m pretty sure he’s going to add a lot. He has experience, understands more than anyone the league, played Champions League many times, won the Premier League a few times as well, so I think he can add a lot to our squad, and I feel happy to have someone like him in our squad,” Edu explained.

Sterling attended Arsenal’s recent Premier League fixture against Brighton, which ended in a 1-1 draw, with Joao Pedro’s goal canceling out Kai Havertz’s opener, and Declan Rice being sent off in the match’s closing stages.

As Sterling settles into his new environment, only time will tell whether Petit’s skepticism is justified or if Sterling will prove to be the asset Arsenal hopes for.
