Arne Slot’s New Rule at Liverpool Revealed: No More Hotel Stays Before Home Games
Liverpool’s new boss, Arne Slot, has quickly made his mark at Anfield, guiding the Reds to nine victories in his first ten games in all competitions. With Liverpool sitting comfortably at the top of the Premier League and boasting two Champions League wins against AC Milan and Bologna, Slot’s tenure is off to an impressive start. But one key change he has implemented since replacing Jurgen Klopp has raised eyebrows among fans and pundits alike.
Slot has decided to put an end to a long-standing tradition at Liverpool — requiring players to stay in hotels the night before home games. Under Klopp, the team routinely stayed at the prestigious Titanic Hotel on matchday eve, a four-star venue just outside Liverpool city center. This practice, which included staff and players alike, was believed to foster team unity. The Reds had also previously used the Hope Street Hotel for the same purpose. However, Slot believes players rest better in familiar surroundings — in their own homes and beds.
Speaking to Sky Sports about the changes he has made since taking over at Liverpool, Slot explained, “There was a real good culture of players being on time so I hate it if we talk about fines and all these kinds of things with players being late, it’s normal you are on time, but that culture was already here.”
He continued, “Maybe, the only one [rule he has changed], and I don’t know if it’s a rule, but they’re used to going into hotels a lot the day before the game and that’s what we’ve changed. I felt like my staff feel the best place to sleep is your own bed, so it gives you the best rest possible. So before a home game, a player is in their own house and their own bed instead of being in a hotel.”
Slot, known for his calm demeanor on the touchline, also shared insights into his game-day preparations. He emphasized the importance of studying the opposition and running meticulous team meetings before each game. “It’s a lot about watching games of the other team and preparing my meeting… On a game day, I always have my game-plan meeting… My main focus is on preparing the team in the best possible way,” he said.
Liverpool now face a challenging stretch of fixtures, including matches against Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, and a Champions League clash with Real Madrid. Slot’s fresh approach will be put to the test as the Reds navigate this demanding schedule.
