In today’s football world, players’ salaries are only the beginning of their earnings, especially for those at the top. Alexis Mac Allister, Liverpool’s talented midfielder, is now joining the ranks of the highest-paid players, securing a significant sponsorship deal.

Player wages at Liverpool have been a hot topic recently, with key players like Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold all set to have their contracts expire at the end of the season. All of them are likely aiming for the best deals possible.

Currently, Salah is one of the top earners, making about $1.25 million (£1 million) per week, a figure his agent described as a “conservative” estimate during a 2023 speech at Harvard Business School. A major portion of Salah’s income comes from his image rights contracts.

Mac Allister’s income will, of course, be far lower than Salah’s, as the Egyptian star is one of the most marketable players in football. However, Liverpool is not rushing to renegotiate Mac Allister’s contract, which is valid until 2028.

The good news for Mac Allister is that advertisers are increasingly interested in him as a brand ambassador. This should come as little surprise given his impressive achievements, including being a World Cup and Copa America champion.

At Liverpool, Mac Allister’s stock is also rising. He is a key player in a team that is now close to winning the Premier League, doing well in the Champions League, and heading for a Wembley final. He is no longer a secondary figure; his role in the team has become central, and his slightly advanced position on the field, under manager Arne Slot, further boosts his marketability.

One company that has taken note of Mac Allister is the payment service app Jeton. The company has signed him as their brand ambassador in a three-year deal.

“I’m pleased to be Jeton’s brand ambassador,” Mac Allister said. “I look forward to representing the brand and sharing its values with my fanbase and football lovers worldwide.”

Mac Allister now joins Ko Itakura, a Japan and Borussia Monchengladbach defender, as part of Jeton’s partnership team. The company also collaborates with West Ham and Legia Warsaw and has previously worked with Aston Villa.

While the partnership with Jeton might not seem huge, it’s another sign of Mac Allister’s growing influence off the pitch. This, along with his on-field performances, will likely prompt Liverpool to consider extending his contract soon, even though the pressure isn’t urgent yet.
